OOTD: Styling Velvet Two Ways

Hi everyone,

With the holidays already upon us, I wanted to make a post about styling velvet since it’s totally on trend and perfect for this festive season! I’ve collected a few velvet pieces recently, but my favorite has to be this one-shouldered crushed velvet bodysuit from Topshop. I love how body suits are so easy to tuck into pants or skirts and always stay smooth to keep that sleek look. Compared to regular velvet, crushed velvet can add an interesting element of texture to a simple outfit.

For my first look I’ve tucked the body suit into a basic, black skater skirt you could probably find in your own wardrobe and finished it off with black suede booties. I don’t think you can go wrong with any kind of bootie or pump here, but booties, especially in suede, just shout winter to me. The black elements of this outfit really allow the textured velvet and dramatic asymmetry do all the talking. I think this would be perfect for a holiday party or New Year’s party.

Keep on reading for my second look!

I’m all for versatility in my wardrobe, so I love it when I can recycle one statement piece in multiple outfits. When I first saw this piece and the dramatic one-shoulder cut, I told myself I’d just spurge on it for party outfits since it’s not something I’d think to wear to class or on any typical day. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it could be dressed down for daily wear! Here I’ve paired the body suit with denim skinny jeans, over the knee boots, and a black cardigan. Again, these are all pretty simple pieces that allow the top to be the star of the outfit. You still get the pop of color and texture and can even see the cool, asymmetrical cut peeking through. Covering up the bared shoulder, in my opinion, makes this look completely wearable in casual settings. I’d wear this out to a lunch date or when I just want to feel extra cute going to class.

That’s all I’ve got for today – I hope you try mixing velvet into your winterwear if you haven’t already. I think this versatile piece is a great place to start. I’ve linked items from both looks down below (last I checked, the bodysuit is on sale!). Have a great day!

xoxo, Emm
